Canning season is coming up, and the Washington County Extension is offering testing of equipment that is part of the canning process.  Administrative assistant Nancy Adrian says pressure canners with a dial-type pressure gauge should be tested each year for accuracy.  Pressure canner lids will be tested from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. on June 1st and 8th, and can be dropped off at the Extension office prior to the testing dates.

Adrian says the entire canner is not needed for testing, only the canner lid.  The pressure gauge and all vents and openings in the lid will be checked for proper functioning.

If you are unable to bring your canner lid on the scheduled testing dates, they may be tested on another date by appointment, but Adrian says that will cost $5.  Testing on the scheduled dates is free.
