An area high school student has been honored by Governor Terry Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds.Edna Jones of Fairfield Community High School was one of two students to be named 2011 U.S. Department of Education Presidential Scholars.  Branstad says Iowa should be proud of these exceptional students, as nearly 3,000 Iowa high schoolers were candidates for the award.

The Presidential Scholars program was created in 1964 by an executive order of the president.  It recognizes the nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors.

Jones has been invited to National Recognition Week in Washington, D.C. in June.
