IMS Moves Past Assumption in Shootout

There was a big time soccer game in Kalona last night between IMS and Davenport Assumption with the winner moving on to play for the right to go to state. IMS scored first with a Marshall Schrock goal to go up 1-0. Assumption would get two late in the first half to take a 2-1 lead in at halftime. In the second half IMS goalie Ben Brenneman was kicked in the nose going for a save. Brenneman would be out the rest of the game and Freshman Reggie Hostetler stepped in and in the remainder of the second half came up with 5 big saves. Late in regulation John Nicholson scored from 20 yards out to even the score. The teams would go to a shootout to decided the game. IMS scored four goals and Assumption was held to two so IMS wins 3-2 to move on. They will face Regina tomorrow at Regina. The Regals beat Mid-Prairie 4-0.

Columbus also advanced to a substate final. The Wildcats beat Notre Dame 2-0 and will now face Holy Trinity. Holy Trinity beat Danville 6-1. Columbus and Holy Trinity will play in Fort Madison tomorrow.
