Soon after they opened their phone lines for the season, the Washington County Extension Master Gardeners have now completed their educational training.  The interns recently participated in a 40 hour program at the Washington County Extension office, where they gained knowledge about lawn care, ornamental trees and shrubs, insects, fruits and vegetables, and more.  They also attended a full day class at Iowa State University, working in labs, visiting the greenhouse, and participating in workshops about how to maintain a good garden.

However, the interns are not finished yet.  The last requirement to fulfill before they are fully certified as an Iowa Master Gardener is completing 40 hours of volunteer service that benefits their home community.
