A ceremony was held yesterday morning to honor those who have lost their lives at sea. American Legion Post 29 in Washington led a ceremony to honor Sailors and Marines at 8:30 yesterday morning at the Crooked Creek Bridge on old Highway 92. Approximately 40 people took part in this observance.
Members of the American Legion led the service with a Color Guard presentation followed by an invocation, a rifle salute and the playing of Taps. Those in attendance also had an opportunity to toss flowers in Crooked Creek to remember those lost.
This ceremony was held in conjunction with a flag raising ceremony at the Post Office earlier in the morning followed by a ceremony for all veterans at Elm Grove Cemetery at 10:00 yesterday morning.
