Washington County Public Health is hosting a task force tomorrow to focus on obesity in the county. Lynn Fisher, Staff Nurse at Washington County Public Health says this task force focusing on obesity was created after a group of community partners became dedicated to improving the health of Washington County residents. Fisher says they have a goal of establishing a student run garden at two elementary schools in the County.
She adds they are targeting obesity in children. According to the Iowa Youth Survey in 2008, 42% of fourth graders in Washington County are either overweight or obese.
The Task Force meets the first Friday of each month from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. For more information, listen to today’s Washington Page.
