Canning season is just around the corner, and to help get canners started, the Washington County Extension is offering testing of dial gauge pressure canners on Saturday. Administrative assistant Nancy Adrian says pressure canners with a dial-type pressure gauge should be tested each year for accuracy. She says to bring the canner lid only when having dial-gauge canners tested. The pressure gauge and all vents and openings in the lid will be checked for proper functioning. It’s not necessary to test weighted or rocker-type pressure regulators because they cannot be adjusted and will usually remain accurate.
Testing takes place Saturday morning from 8:00 to 10:00, and lids may be dropped off at the Extension Office beforehand. If you can’t make it to the testing times, an appointment can be set up for a $5 fee. For more information contact the Washington County Extension.
