The Washington Demon boys and girls track and field teams head to Keokuk today for their conference meet. In the past when district and regional meets have been on Fridays or Saturdays the Southeast Conference has had their conference meet on that Monday. However, this year district and regional meets are on a Thursday. The move was made because some host schools have found it difficult finding enough workers on Fridays and Saturdays. With the change the conference decided to have the conference meet a little earlier to give teams some time in between.

On the girls side, Washington Demon Head Coach Howard Bean says heading in the big key for them is their individual events and getting two girls placing in some of those to double up points. He also says it’ll be big if they can start strong with field events and get some early momentum. Bean says one of the nice things is throughout the season they have two girls finish towards the top in multiple events.

For the boys, Head Coach Steve Roth says teams have improved since the start of the season, but the Mount Pleasant Panthers are the team to beat. He feels the Demons have a good chance at being conference champs in the 4×2 and the mile. He says the main thing they need to do is take care of themselves.
