Second and third grade students at Stewart School had a lesson in recycling yesterday afternoon.During an assembly Kurt Levetzow from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources shared that there are many materials that are made from recycled materials.  Todd Fox from the Washington Hy-Vee presented information that using one reusable shopping bag replaces 1000 plastic bags.

Fox says every time a reusable shopping bag is used, Hy-Vee will give you a nickel.  He shares that over the last five years, they have given out over 50,000 nickels.

At the end of the assembly, the students received a reusable shopping bag and a drum was left inside the school’s entrance for children to bring in their plastic shopping bags.
