The Wapello City Council is discussing the possibility of making golf carts legal to drive on city streets. The idea was introduced by Third Ward Councilman Shawn Maine at Thursday night’s council meeting. Mayor Ron Durbin says there are no plans of any kind, but he added he definitely sees pros and cons.
He says one of the benefits of Maine’s idea is how it would relieve pressure at the pump, especially for senior citizens. The council will continue to talk about the issue, as Maine and Police Chief Wayne Crump will continue to do research on existing regulations of golf carts, and possible changes that can be made.
