Area residents will have the opportunity to explore one of Southeast Iowa’s rivers by canoe.  The Washington County Conservation Board is leading a trip from McKain’s River Access to the Brighton Access of the Skunk River on May 21st.  Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Biologist will accompany travelers down the river, providing them with nature expertise and information along the way.

Naturalist Pam Holz says paddlers will see plenty of scenery along on the waterway, such as different species of birds and possibly deer.  The cost for the trip is five dollars, and will only be open to 18 participants.

Holz reminds those interested that canoeists must be at least ten years old and have some canoeing experience.  Canoes and lifejackets will be provided.

Holz says people can register for the trip by calling Kirkwood – Washington Center.
