An Iowa National Guard Soldier from Washington County serving in Afghanistan has been injured.  Private Alexander Meyer from Ainsworth was wounded from small arms fire while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan earlier this week.  Meyer, who is 19, was transported to medical facilities at Jaf Hospital in Afghanistan and was later taken to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany for additional medical treatment.

He will be transferred to the military medical facilities in the US at a later date.  Meyer’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Meyer is one of nearly 2800 Soldiers from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom last summer.  KCII will bring you more information when it becomes official.
