Plans for construction of a new water main system in Wellman will have to wait a little longer.  The Wellman City Council gave an update on the 2011 Infrastructure Project Monday.  City Clerk Donna Wade says details for the project are all in place, and work can begin as soon as a grant is received from the federal government.

The city received a grant from the Community Business Development Group, but that money has to be approved in Washington, D.C.  Wade says the funds are being used to solve a storm water infiltration problem.

She says storm water gets into parts of the city’s waste water system, and new water mains are necessary.  The area affected includes Circle Drive, and from Sixth Avenue to the elementary school.

As for public response at the meeting, Wade says about five residents from the construction area expressed a few concerns, but the city is working to accommodate them while work is going on.  Cost for the project is about one point seven million dollars, and the city is expected to receive an additional five hundred thousand dollars in grant money.
