The Washington Demon softball team faced the Fairfield Trojans in the varsity squad’s home opener in their new ball park. The Demons led early 2-0 and it was 3-2 Demons in the bottom of the fifth when they scored three runs. Sammy Ellingson, Lauren Vittetoe had hits and Joni Erwin had a double. The Demons got three more runs including a two run hit from Lauren Vittetoe to win 9-3.

In the second game it was a little wilder as Washington built a 9-3 lead but the Trojans scored five runs in the top of the 5th to pull within one. In the top of the 6th with the Demons up 10-8 Brittany Craft hit a two runs shot to left field to tie the game at 10-10. In the bottom of the sixth Washington played some small ball. With Maddie Bohr at first Sammy Ellingson laid down a bunt and beat out the throw. Lauren Vittetoe bunted them to second and third. Kaitlin Buchholz hit a sac fly to right to score a run and another came in on a past ball. The Demons would win 12-10. The Demons are now 7-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Fairfield is now 3-3 and still needs to play Keokuk. The Demons host West Branch tonight.
