The Washington Demon baseball team had Mount Pleasant here in Washington last night, a team that came in unbeaten in conference play. The Panthers struck first in game one with a run in the top of the second after Alex O’Donnell reached on an error and scored on a Ryan Shull double. But in the bottom of the inning with two and nobody on DH Austin Knupp stepped up and hit a solo home run to left. That would spark the next few batters as Collin Steele and Colton Covington got back to back hits then Anthony Ossman reached on an error and Josh More hit a double as the Demons scored three runs in the inning. The Panthers scored another run in the third and one in the fifth, but were retired in order in the last two innings as the Demons won 5-3. Austin Knupp went 3-3 at the plate with 2 rbi’s, Josh Moore had two doubles. Brad Weatherman pitched a complete game.
In the second game it was all Demons as they got a three run home run from Colton Covington to go up 4-0. The bats were going as the Demons scored 11 runs through four innings and won the game in five 11-0. Collin Steele pitched the complete game, so the Demons win two against Mount Pleasant only having to use two pitchers on the night. The Panthers pitched Korbin Taylor in the first game and Jacob Dilks in the second game.
The Demons improve to 6-2 in the conference while Mount Pleasant falls to 4-2. They still need to make up a doubleheader with Fort Madison. The Demons suffered their two conference losses to Fort Madison last Thursday and Coach Miller says since then they’ve been on track with strong wins over West Branch, Fairfield and now Mount Pleasant. Washington will host Williamsburg tonight.
