Recent heavy rainfall has caused the English River in northern Washington County to flood over its banks this week.  The National Weather Service reports the river is moderately flooding at Kalona with a current stage of 16.1 feet.  The flood stage of the river is 14 feet.  Washington County Engineer David Patterson says no major roads have been affected by the flooding, but some rural secondary roads were closed over the weekend.  The flood warning for the river is in effect until tonight, and residents should exercise caution near flooded areas.
