With flooded rivers and streams posing problems once again this year, funding may be available for the prevention of farmland flooding.  The Iowa Department of Agriculture is encouraging eligible groups to apply for grants to support projects that will improve water quality or help prevent flooding in the state of Iowa.  Local watershed improvement committees, soil and water conservation districts, county conservation boards, and cities and counties all have between $743,000 and $1.2 million in grant funds available to them for future projects.

Examples of eligible proposals include those addressing agricultural runoff and drainage, flood prevention, and storm water runoff.  Projects can receive up to $500,000 in funding over five years.

Applications can be found on the Iowa Department of Agriculture’s website, and are due by Friday, August 5th.
