Monday night in Durant featured two of the front runners in the Cedar Valley Conference softball race, when the dust settled #4 Durant had distanced itself from the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks with an impressive 9-1 win. Going into action last night the top four teams in the Cedar Valley Conference were all separated by just one game in the standings. In a game you heard on KCII, it was the Golden Hawks who struck first as pitcher Felicia Schulty helped out her own cause at the plate with a long drive that cleared the left field wall putting Mid-Prairie ahead 1-0 in the 2nd inning. From that point on it was all Wildcats, as they pounded out nine hits and took advantage of three Mid-Prairie errors. Durant took the lead 3-1 in the second on a two RBI double by Gretchen Lilienthal and never looked back, scoring four more in the 5th and two more in the 6th. Lilienthal was the key contributor for the Wildcats going three for three on the night with five driven in and two runs scored. Schulty was the only Golden Hawk at the plate who made consistent contact against All-district candidate Paige Compton. Schulty was three for three with a homer and two base hits. Schulty took the loss for Mid-Prairie falling to 3-5 on the season while Compton improved to 14-1 with the win. The Golden Hawks will next be in action tonight at home against North Cedar.
