After May brought heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms to the area, it looks like summer heat is on the way.  The National Weather Service and AccuWeather expect hot and muggy conditions across the area today through Wednesday.  They predict temperatures in the 90’s with heat index readings near 100 degrees for all of Southeast Iowa prompting the heat advisory to be in effect starting at 1:00 this afternoon through 7:00 Wednesday evening.

During a heat advisory, residents are advised to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks from outdoor work, and to check on the young and elderly.  The period of heat is expected to be short, however, as a cold front will bring thunderstorms to the area on Thursday, lowering temperatures into the upper 70’s for the rest of the week.
