The first June meeting of the Kalona City Council took place Monday evening.  The council awarded a bid to complete the city’s Asphalt Paving Street Project.  City Administrator Ryan Slaubaugh says the $51,000 bid was awarded to L.L. Pelling of North Liberty, and they will lay new asphalt on sections of Avenue C and 3rd Street.  He says the project involves new wastewater management, including new piping and inlets, but it is not part of the Paving Street Project and will be addressed by city staff.  The council also approved funds awarded to the city of Kalona by the Washington County Riverboat Foundation, and those funds will be used to renovate the city’s ball fields.
