The Keokuk County Board of Supervisors helped an effort to honor fallen county deputy Sergeant Eric Stein.  Stein was killed while on duty in April, and Keokuk County Sheriff Jeff Shipley has nominated his former colleague for two state awards.  County auditor Christy Bates says the nominations have to be approved by the board, which unanimously supported the nominations.

The Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor and the Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery are announced by the state of Iowa , and the county should find out by late summer if Stein is a recipient of the awards.
