The Demon baseball team is back in Des Moines today playing in the Class 3A semifinal round of the state baseball tournament. The Demons beat ADM on Tuesday 8-4 to put them in the semifinals. Washington faces Harlan this afternoon. The Harlan Cyclones won a back and forth game with Boone in the nightcap Tuesday 6-4. The Cyclones come in 20-14 while the Demons are 30-7 and have won 11 straight. One of the things that has been a strong suit for the Demons is their stingy play in the field. Washington has four pitchers who are among the 3A leaders in fewest hits allowed. The Demons pitchers haven’t put up huge strike out numbers but they have thrown strikes and the team has fielded well behind them. The Demons taking on Harlan at Principal Park this afternoon. It will be a 2-pm first pitch and we should be on the air at around 1:45.

In the other 3A semifinal game, 37-4 Solon takes on 27-16 Marion. Solon beat Waukon 10-0 in five innings to open the tournament, while Marion beat Storm Lake 3-0. Solon and Marion will play at noon. The title game will be played tomorrow evening at 6-pm.

The 1A and 2A championship matchups are set. In 1A, Martensdale-St. Mary’s won another one run game beating Coon Rapids-Bayard 5-4. Kee, Lansing was a 5-0 winner over Newman Catholic, Mason City.

In 2A, Gilbert beat number one seed Kuemper Catholic, Carroll 6-5. So Gilbert will play Davis County who was an 8-1 winner over St. Albert, Council Bluffs.
