Fourth of July fireworks are happening tonight in many communities around the area tonight.  Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar wants everyone to stay safe while celebrating our nation’s independence, and reminds Washington County residents that out of state fireworks can be dangerous.

Sheriff Dunbar says one or two hand injuries are caused each year by fireworks in Washington County.  Use of illegal fireworks is a simple misdemeanor, but operating permits can be granted by the Washington County Board of Supervisors.
