As one area team prepares to begin state tournament play, another finishes up. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team wrapped up their second straight state tournament appearance playing Bondurant-Farrar in the third place game Friday. The Golden Hawks were winning 3-2 in the third when rain came and the game was cancelled. Mid-Prairie Head Coach Justin Lutjen says not being able to finish was hard because they were playing their best ball of the season in that game. The Golden Hawks also made the third place game in 2007, but that game was cancelled because of weather before they could even start. In that year the teams were both given third place, and that will likely be the case here. Lutjen feels it was a season in which they won a lot of games people probably didn’t think they could and found themselves as one of four teams playing on the last day possible. Mid-Prairie ends up 24-19 and graduates two seniors Rachel Miller and Jasmin Hulser.
