Southeast Iowa received a visit from three Government officials from Des Moines yesterday.  Governor Terry Branstad, Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds and Special Assistant for Education Linda Lantor Fandel were in attendance for a town hall meeting in Sigourney yesterday afternoon in the Sigourney High School library to promote the Iowa Education Summit.

The purpose of the summit is to increase teacher and principal effectiveness; raise academic standards and putting in place strong matching assessments; and innovation that increases learning.

Approximately 60 people attended this town hall meeting to share their concerns with the Governor and Lieutenant Governor about the current status of our educational system.  The Iowa Education Summit will be held in Des Moines next week.
