Last week’s heat wave prompted most of us to change and limit our outdoor activities.  Everyone attempting to stay cool in the heat did so in various ways.  Washington County Public Health Program Director Chrystal Woller says they advised everyone to stay in the air conditioning either at home or at a public place.

She adds no one came to their office with any heat related illnesses.  Washington County Hospital and Clinics saw slightly more people than average and this time last year from the heat.

Those treated for heat exhaustion were mainly construction workers.  Chris Gaughan with the Washington Y says while Senior Dining area was available as a cool place for the week, no one took advantage of the space.

Don Ruffenach with the Washington Public Library says they did not see any additional foot traffic as well.  Anne Skaden with the Kalona Public Library says she did not notice more patrons in the library, but their circulation did increase.
