A northern Washington County road will be closed beginning Monday. Washington County Engineer David Patterson says Hickory Avenue south of Highway 22 to 130th Street, east of Wellman, will be closed for the replacement of the bridge over Smith Creek.
He says the current bridge is deteriorating and will be replaced with a wider bridge that will improve the existing capacity.
Construction should be completed in four to five months, weather permitting. Patterson says the contract for the bridge replacement was awarded to Peterson Contractors of Reinbeck, Iowa for $461,000.
