A vehicle versus train accident in rural Jefferson County has sent two people to the hospital.  According to the Iowa State Patrol, the driver was traveling northbound on 213th Street in Jefferson County and had crossed the tracks in front of a westbound Amtrak train Monday evening.  The train struck the right rear of the truck causing it to spin and rest on the driver’s side.

Injured in the accident was the 16 year old driver from Mt. Pleasant and their female passenger.  Both were taken to the Henry County Hospital by the Jefferson County Ambulance.

The driver of the 1997 Ford F-150 pickup was cited for not having insurance, failure to obey a yield sign and not having a valid driver’s license.
