The Highland Husky softball team had big innings in the third and fourth to begin postseason play with a lopsided win over HLV. In a game heard on KCII, it was 1-1 early but the Huskies scored four runs in the third and were a batter away from batting around. They did bat around in the fourth when they scored another four runs and batted around in a five run sixth. The Huskies won 16-2. Mariah Freel held HLV to two hits and had nine strikeouts. At the plate Kayla Schneider went 3-4 with 4 runs, Paige Wieland had 2 hits 3 rbi’s and scored two runs, and Taylor Vonnahme went 4-5 with a double and a triple and had 4 rbi’s. Highland improves to 23-13, they will face the winner of tonight’s Lone Tree and IMS game. Those two teams are playing in Kalona and you can hear it on KCII and kciiradio.com.
