A Kalona woodworking business has been honored for its innovative idea to improve assisted living.  Bill Yoder of Ramsey Creek Cabinets was presented with the “Entrepreneur of the Month” award through the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation’s Renew Rural Iowa program at a ceremony yesterday.  The event also featured a presentation of Yoder’s idea of a retractable floor inside a kitchen cabinet at floor level.

Yoder says the floor moves pushes back into the cabinet, leaving an open space for a wheelchair.  He says that would allow a disabled person to access their countertop, stove, or sink.

Yoder says he’s never seen another model like his, and the trade-marking process has revealed no duplicate ideas.  Sandy Ehrig with the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation says the group seeks to honor small Iowa businesses for their entrepreneurial work and contributions.
