The frills of Kalona’s Downtown Revitalization Project are certainly visible in the town, but the Kalona City Council needed to take care of a few payments to fully complete the project. City Administrator Ryan Schlaubaugh says the city paid All-American Concrete the $119,000 retainer of the total bill of $2.7 million, leaving a final payment of $27,000 as the only obstacle left to finalizing the entire project.  That payment will be made at the council’s second August meeting.

The council voted unanimously to make the remaining payments at its most recent meeting.

Schlaubaugh says project coordinators will now educate city officials on how to maintain the additions to the town, including how to clear lines of water in the new irrigation system before winter.
