There are currently no West Nile Virus cases reported in humans or animals in Iowa, but the summer flooding in western Iowa has increased the number of mosquitoes in that part of the state. Washington County Public Health Program Director Chrystal Woller says the symptoms of West Nile Virus are more apparent in the very young and elderly, but for others they can be so mild that you don’t even know you have it.

She says while once identified, a virus like West Nile has to run its course, treatments are available for complications associated with the disease.  For more information, contact the Washington County Public Health.
