Mid-Prairie came from behind for the second straight game this post season, this time to stun #1 Durant 5-4 on the road last night. In a regional final game heard on KCII, Durant lost the coin toss and was the visiting team. They took control of the game early with two runs in the top of the first , and added single tallies in the 4th and 5th to build a commanding 4-0 lead going to the 7th. The Mid-Prairie offense had been stymied by Durant’s all conference hurler Paige Compton. With their backs against the wall, Mid-Prairie found the comeback magic once again. Mallory McArtor led off with a base hit and Mariah Swartzendruber walked. Olivia Lugar got Mid-Prairie on the board with an RBI double, followed by an RBI hit from Erika Murphy to bring the Golden Hawks within two. Following a ground out by Emmie Leinen and a walk to Kaitlin Kaalberg, Rachel Miller stepped in and promptly tied the game with an RBI base hit, scoring Carolyn Frantz and Whitni Patterson. After a strike out Mid-Prairie had a chance to win the game in regulation with runners on the corners and two outs when Felicia Schulty hit a drive to left that kicked off left field Aubrey Bland’s glove allowing Kaalberg to score the winning run. Lugar recorded the win for Mid-Prairie. Mid-Prairie will be in action at the state tournament in Ft. Dodge Monday at 5PM when they face off with Nodaway Valley.
