The Iowa legislature passing their budget last week has resulted in a savings to Washington taxpayers.  Washington Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen says everyone in the school district will be assessed a lower amount on their property taxes.  He says the new levy amount will be $16.76 per $1000 of taxable value which is 70 cents lower.

Dr. Jorgensen says the biggest change was with the funding of the Grant Wood AEA Flow through money.  This decrease became effective the first of the month when the new budget year started.

Mid-Prairie and Keota Schools Superintendent Mark Schneider says the new budget did not change either school’s bottom line.  KCII is investigating the impact of other school districts in the listening area and will bring you more information as it becomes official.
