Washington Rallies Past Williamsburg

The Washington Demon softball team used a dramatic comeback to advance out of the opening round of the postseason. The Demons were in Williamsburg facing the Raiders and with a coin flip before the game the Demons won the right to be the home team. In a game heard on KCII, Washington struck first with a Kaitlin Buchholz double to score Maddie Bohr in the first inning. Williamsburg tied it at one in the top of the fourth but Washington brought across three runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 4-1. Williamsburg pulled within one with a Mackenzie Bigbee two run homer to left. Then in the seventh the Demons had a couple of errors that were key in the Raiders scoring three runs to go up 6-4 going into the bottom of the seventh. In the seventh Mackenzie Adrian led off with a slap hit and Sammy Ellingson and Kaitlin Buchholz each got on with walks and with two outs down by two and the bases loaded Lauren Vittetoe came up with a big hit to center and scored three runs. The Demons won 7-6 and improve to 20-16. Williamsburg ends their season at 23-17. Washington now moves on to play tonight in Pella.

The Demons face Pella who beat Grinnell on Saturday 12-4. You’ll be able to hear tonight’s game on the one to count on KCII, we’ll be on the air at around 7-pm with the broadcast. On the other side of the bracket Clear Creek-Amana beat Benton Community 15-0 in four innings. The Clippers will host Vinton-Shellsburg who beat South Tama 7-0.

Also on Saturday Mount Pleasant beat Fairfield in Fairfield 6-0. Keokuk hosting Fort Madison won 10-6. So Mount Pleasant heads to Keokuk tonight to face the Chiefs.

In Class 2A, Mid-Prairie goes to Mediapolis to face the Bullettes. The Golden Hawks won their opening round game over West Liberty 12-1.

In Class 1A, the Highland Huskies head to Belle Plaine to face in regional semifinal action. Highland beat IMS 2-1 on Friday to move one while Belle Plaine went to Gilbertville and beat seventh ranked Don Bosco 6-5.
