The Washington School Board met last night and held discussion on how to proceed with the renovation of the current High School since last month’s bond issue failed.  Items discussed were how to address the electrical service, the heating system and the purchase of window air conditioning units.  These will be addressed as part of next month’s meeting.

Discussion was also held regarding the future relationship with the Iowa Association of School Boards.  The Board agreed at this time to continue their membership for another year, however, as several members showed lack of confidence in the IASB, it was determined that the association did provide benefits to the district that could not be easily replaced.

The Board also agreed on five legislative resolutions to be given to the IASB to chart future advocacy efforts.  Board members learned that those wishing to be reelected have until August 4th to file the proper paperwork in time for the September 13th election.

Board member Richard Bordwell said he would not seek another term on the School Board.  The next meeting of the Washington School Board will be at 7:00 pm on August 17th at Lincoln Elementary.
