Next year’s state softball tournament may look a little more crowded as the state intends to have it run the same number of days, despite adding another class. The start of next softball season will mean a change for all Iowa high girls’ sports with the addition of 5A. Despite adding the new class the softball state tournament will start on Monday July 16th and finish Friday July 20th. At the busiest time of the tournament, in the middle of the week, there could be as many as five games going on at one time. Under the new five class system, 5A will be made up of the 40 largest schools, 4A the next 48, 3A the next 64, 2A the next 96 and the rest will be in 1A. With this system Washington would be one of the smaller 4A schools.
