An accident in northern Keokuk County sends one person to the hospital.  The Iowa State Patrol reports four people were traveling on Highway 149 near 170th Street south of Webster before encountering a deer in the road.

48 year-old Anna Matthews of Sigourney was driving a Chevy Blazer with three passengers and swerved to avoid hitting the deer.  The vehicle flipped over to the driver’s side and came to rest in the northbound lane of Highway 149.

Matthews was transported by Air Care to University of Iowa Hospital.

The three other passengers – 36 year-old Richard Matthews, 28 year-old Clifford Fritz, and 42 year-old Tena Fritz, all of Sigourney – were transported to Keokuk County Hospital by Keokuk County Ambulance.

Responding to the scene were Sigourney Fire and Rescue, Keswick Fire and Rescue, and the Keswick Quick Responders.
