The Washington County Board of Supervisors heard a presentation regarding a Community Development Block Grant award as part of their meeting yesterday. Gary Hughes with the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) says the grant being awarded will be to refurbish a building located at the Orchard Hill Complex. The total cost of the refurbishing will be $468,000.
He says the County will be working with ECICOG on the refurbishing and proper paperwork involved. The Supervisors also agreed to the suspension of property taxes within the county.
County Treasurer Jeffrey Garrett says when taxes are suspended, they still appear on the books, but no fines or interest is attached and is due upon the sale of the property. He adds since 1997, there is currently over $37,000 in property taxes that have been suspended.
A resolution was passed for the suspension of the property taxes for two different locations.
