The Columbus Wildcat cross country team opened their season on Saturday running at Cedar Rapids Prairie. Columbus Head Coach Mike Jay says this was a new meet for them. He says Prairie has run this meet for several years, but this year they wanted it to be the largest early season meet and they were running three classes. Jay says in their class Monticello who qualified for state last year both on the boys and girls side, won both Saturday and both of Columbus’ teams came in second. Ray Quiroz finished 7th and Ruben Jasso came in 10th. On the girls side, Taylor Hills finished 4th and Caitlin Chaney 5th. Columbus will next go to Pella on Saturday.
