Two Washington County 4-Hers took showmanship honors at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. 4-H Coordinator Amy Green says Ty Sexton of Ainsworth won Reserve Champion Beef Showman in the 11th and 12th grade division.
This is Sexton’s third honor so far in the fair.
Makenzi Marek of the Jackson Jets 4-H club in Riverside also earned a Reserve Champion showman in the 5th and 6th grade division in the swine category.
In total, Green says Washington County 4-Hers earned 16 purple ribbons in the three livestock showmanship classes. She says most shows evaluate the animals, but the showmanship award reflects a 4-H member’s ability to prepare and exhibit the animal in the show ring.
