The Washington Demons came up with a strong second half while Mid-Prairie battled cramps in their week one football match up. In a game heard on KCII, both teams scored on their opening drives. The Demons threw quick pass to Brock Kimball who went 29 yards for the first touchdown. The pat missed off the left upright.

Mid-Prairie put together a drive of their own that was almost stopped with a holding penalty which set up a third and thirty-three, but quarterback Jaemin Powell came up with huge run to keep the drive going. Stephen Jones would take it into the end zone on a short run. On the pat a trouble snap led to holder Jaemin Powell having to improvise and threw a pass off his back foot to Dylan Wertz on the goal line for two point conversion. The Golden Hawks led 8-6.

They’d take that lead in at halftime. In the second half both teams were forced to punt a couple of times but the Demons Kyle Roder had some strong runs going 41 yards on Washington’s second touchdown drive to go up 13-8. Quarterback Jake Redlinger would score on a touchdown run and Washington led 21-8.

Meanwhile, MId-Prairie saw Dylan Wertz, Stephen Jones, Reid Miller all battle cramps in the second half. Washington had some big stops including Alex Coker knocking away a pass in the end zone on fourth down with it 21-8. Washington won 27-8. They now head to Keokuk on Friday. Mid-Prairie has their home opener next week when Clear Creek-Amana comes to town.
