As the football season gets closer, this will be the first season since state lawmakers passed a new law dealing with concussions and student athletes. Last winter during the legislative session, law makers unanimously passed the Youth Sports and Concussions bill. The law says if a student is suspected of having suffered a concussion, they must be removed from participation. Demon Football Head Coach Randy Shrader says those officiating games have the power to make that determination now. It also says the athlete may not come back to participate in practices or games until their parents sign an information sheet and the athlete is released by a licensed health-care provider. While some schools may have already had some sort of policy like this in place, this now makes it a state law.
