Today is the first day for football teams to be able to put on the pads. The first day of practice for high school teams was Monday but they have only been able to practice with their helmets, today teams will be able to go full contact. For the Columbus Wildcats, Head Coach Jeff Martin says it’s an exciting time in the preseason, because you can see who really wants to be a football player and be aggressive. Martin says they have about 40 kids out. He says last year early on they didn’t have very many out the first few days and it look like numbers would be a concern but then several came out after the first few practices, now this year they’ve had strong participation throughout. The Wildcats open on the road against Wapello August 26th.
