A state organization is awarding a grant to the Oakville Volunteer Corporation to assist in rebuilding a flood-impacted home in the town.  Oakville was ravaged by Iowa and Cedar River flooding in 2008, cutting the town’s population in half as people vacated the area.  The Iowa Finance Authority Board of Directors approved the $15,000 grant, which will be used to assist in financing the rehabilitation of a home at 307 2nd Street in Oakville.

Tonya Lanz is the director of the Oakville Volunteer Foundation.  She says the Iowa Finance Authority’s support will soon translate one empty, flood-impacted home into a home for an Oakville family.

She says her organization plans to do this with about 25 homes in the town, which will fill a need for workforce housing.

The State Housing Trust Fund’s program has provided nearly $600,000 in financing for the development of affordable single-family and multifamily housing units in Iowa.
