A narcotics investigation by several southeastern Iowa law enforcement agencies has resulted in the arrest of a Wapello man. Police arrested 37 year-old Jorge Saavedra Friday after a vehicle pursuit.
Louisa County officials say investigators conducted a controlled delivery of marijuana to Saavedra, and then attempted to pull him over for a traffic stop. Saavedra sped away from officers and led a chase north into Muscatine County before being apprehended near the Muscatine Airport.
The investigation and pursuit led to the discovery of over 150 pounds of marijuana.
Saavedra was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, violation of drug tax stamp, eluding, false imprisonment, and speeding, and is currently being held at the Louisa County Jail on a $76,000 bond.
Investigators say Saavedra is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
