Washington’s long time Boys’ Track and Field Coach and Assistant Football Coach will take on a new challenge this fall. Steve Roth has been named the Head Cross Country Coach. He takes over for Ryan Gratz. Gratz coached the Demons for the last three seasons. Roth says he’s enjoyed coaching football for the last 35 years spending the last few seasons working with receivers and defensive backs, but he saw the opportunity to coach cross country as a chance to do something different. He sees a lot of similarities between coaching track and cross country. He says a lot of it is mental and much like some of the longer running events in track, it’s all about developing a strategy, staying with the pack, and trying to weigh when you want to try to make your break.
