The Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office are making sure you always arrive safely to your destination. Beginning tomorrow, law enforcement officials will be on the roadways making sure motorists are buckled up and are obeying all traffic laws through Iowa’s special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP).
Randy Hunefeld, sTEP Coordinator with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau says this program first started in 1996 when statewide seat belt usage was at 75%. Currently the usage rate is 93%.
He says there are approximately 250 law enforcement agencies across the state that take part in sTEP. Hunefeld says the sTEP program will run tomorrow into next month.
