As week one of the football season approaches a couple of area teams who went deep into the postseason, begin this season in the AP rankings. In Class 2A, Sigourney-Keota, who made it to the quarterfinals last season, is ranked 9th. Mediapolis who is also in S-K and Mid-Prairie’s district is ranked 8th.

In Class A, WACO, who reached the semifinals, is ranked seventh. Lisbon, who is in the same district as WACO, Winfield-Mount Union, and Lone Tree, is ranked sixth.

In Class 3A, there are two Demon district teams in the rankings. Defending state champ Solon is ranked number two and Williamsburg is ranked number 10. Washington will see those two teams in consecutive weeks to close out the regular season.

Looking at each of the number ones in each class, 4A Cedar Falls, 3A Sioux City Heelan, 2A West Marshall, 1A Emmetsburg, A Madrid, and 8-Man Armstrong-Ringstead.
