Mid-Prairie used big plays after a slow start to pull away from Eddyville-Blakesburg in a 35-0 district win Friday night. In a game heard on kciiradio.com the Golden Hawks
got on the board in the final minute of the 1st quarter when Jaemin Powell found tight end Dylan Wertz on a 32 yard touchdown pass to make the score 7-0 after the PAT.
Just before the half Mid-Prairie made it a two score advantage when Steven Jones turned a garden variety draw play into an 86 yard touchdown run. Mid-Prairie held the halftime lead though the Rockets had double Mid-Prairie’s first down output and had a two to one advantage in time of possession in the first half. The Golden Hawks got some breathing room on their first possession of the second half, taking a 21-0 lead when Jones crashed in from two yards out for his second score of the night. With the Rockets putting together a promising drive, Eddyville quarterback Trevor Swartz threw a pick into the hands of Wertz who returned it 52 yards and three plays later Canaan Powell cashed the turnover in for a touchdown with a six yard run making the score 28-0 going to the final period. Mid-Prairie finish their scoring and reach continuous clock format with quarterback Reid Miller under center, he toss to Jaemin Powell who sped around right end for a 49 yard touchdown run. Statistically Mid-Prairie was led by Steven Jones who had 12 carries 179 yards and two touchdowns, Jaemin Powell had six carries 88 yards and a score through the air and on the ground. The Golden Hawks recorded 342 yards on the ground in the game. With the win Mid-Prairie sets up a first place district show down next week in Mediapolis as the 2-0 Golden Hawks will face the 2-0 and #6 Bulldogs of Mediapolis who were 43-0 winners over West Burlington Notre Dame last evening.
